How are semi-rigid boats made?

RIBs are becoming increasingly popular because of their versatility and ability to sail in a variety of conditions. However, few people know how these boats are made. In this article, we will take a closer look at the process of making a RIB boat.

The float

The first key element of any RIB boat is the float. The float is the part of the boat that provides buoyancy and stability in the water. RIB floats are made from a material called Hypalon or Neoprene (just like our repair fabrics!). These materials are known for their resistance to salt water, UV rays and chemicals. Floats are usually made up of several compartments, so if one compartment is damaged, the rest of the float will continue to provide sufficient buoyancy.

The hull

The next step in manufacturing a RIB is the hull. Hulls are usually made of fiberglass, carbon or a mixture of both materials.

The process of making the hull begins with the creation of a mold. The mold is usually made of wood or polystyrene foam. Once the mold is ready, layers of fiberglass and resin are applied to the mold to create the hull. Once the resin has cured, the shell is removed from the mold and the finishing touches are applied.

The assembly

The float and the hull are then assembled. The floats are attached to the hull with special rubber bands, called "flanges". The flanges are attached to the hull with a special special glue to ensure a complete seal.

The accessories

Once assembled, the boat is equipped with all the necessary accessories, such as seats, consoles, fuel tanks, engines, propellers and navigation instruments.

Conclusion

It is important to note that building a RIB is a complex process that requires a high level of skill and expertise. RIB manufacturers employ skilled professionals to ensure that each boat is built to the highest quality standards.

In conclusion, RIBs require meticulous and precise work to build. The combination of durable materials, advanced manufacturing techniques and technical know-how creates durable, versatile and reliable RIBs.

Whether for fishing, diving, watersports or cruising, a RIB can provide years of fun and adventure!
