International Climate Day
This Wednesday, December 8, 2021, is International Climate Day and to participate in this event, we would like to share with you a fantastic upcycling project of ORCA CSM neoprene fabrics that are surely used in your RIB boats.
First of all, what is Upcycling?
Upcycling is a concept based on the reuse of objects with the aim of giving them a second life by improving them and/or making them attractive.
Simply put, it is the art of making something beautiful out of something old.
This term was coined in the 1990s by an interior designer Reiner Pilz.
We would like to honour a craftswoman who offers upcycled solutions with the old ORCA CSM neoprene floats of our RIB but also sails of old sailing boats, life rafts...
This initiative named Sailing Kala is led by Amalia, a young Belgian national (we know Belgium well too!) who has been living in Tenerife for a few years in her old sailboat from the 1960s.
In 2018, Amalia bought her first sewing machine. After several attempts, the first CSM bag made from the tubes of old RIBs was born.
Following this first creation, a whole range of accessories (wallets, bags, pouches and even backgammon) followed. The creative initiatives continue to grow.
All creations are handmade by her (cleaning, preparation, creation and sale on the web and in partner shops).
Today the small company has a small workshop to work in more comfortably and has more storage space to collect the available fabrics.
You can find all of Amalia's products directly on Etsy at the following address: https: //www.etsy.com/es/shop/SailingKala
You can also find her on Instagram: Sailing Kala Instagram
Solid ORCA CSM products, recycled, original and unique, handmade, an original gift idea and a little help for the planet.
We would like to congratulate her on her work and her project to reuse fabrics from the nautical industry.
If you also know of a responsible project, don't hesitate to share it with us 😊
